Oral Arguments Against Prop 8 to be Heard on March 5th

The California Supreme Court announced today that it will hear oral arguments on Thursday, March 5, 2009 in the Proposition 8 legal challenge.

Not sure how long it will be before we get a ruling, but it's exciting that it's finally happening! And by the way, a lawyer friend of mine told me more about the import behind Jerry Brown's decision to formally oppose Prop 8. As State Attorney General, it is Jerry Brown's job to defend California law against any legal challenges, including law created through a ballot proposition such as Prop 8. This is his job, and he is expected to defend California and the current law regardless of how he personally feels about the law. For him to announce that he is *not* defending Prop 8, and in fact is instead urging the State Supreme Court to invalidate it, is apparently equivalent to your family lawyer, who you've paid to defend you against lawsuits for years, turning around and saying "You know what? This time you deserve it, and I can't represent you on this."
